Autism Teaching Assistant – Chesterfield
Location: Chesterfield
Role: Autism Teaching Assistant
Start Date: ASAP / Ongoing
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only
Monarch Education are currently recruiting for an Autism Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist educational setting in Chesterfield, supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
This is a highly rewarding role suited to individuals who are patient, adaptable and passionate about supporting children with additional needs. You will play a vital role in helping pupils access learning, develop communication skills and build independence.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism
- Support communication, social interaction and emotional regulation
- Adapt learning materials and strategies to meet individual needs
- Work closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals
- Use structured approaches such as visual timetables and routines
- Encourage engagement, independence and confidence
- Maintain a safe, calm and supportive learning environment
- Experience working with children or young people with Autism (ASC)
- Patient, calm and nurturing approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils
Understanding of additional needs and sensory behaviours - Passion for supporting children with SEND
- Experience in a specialist school or SEND setting
- Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or other communication tools
- Team Teach or similar training
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare or support work
- GCA Approved Supplier
