Job Overview

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a GCSE English Tutor to join a flexible tutor pool delivering face‑to‑face GCSE English Language classes to learners aged 14‑19 following the AQA GCSE English Language specification.

As a GCSE English Tutor you will plan and deliver engaging teaching, learning and assessment activities that support GCSE resit learners to achieve their full potential. You will utilise inclusive teaching strategies, blended learning techniques and effective classroom management skills to maintain learner engagement, motivation and achievement.

The successful candidate will have previous experience, with a thorough understanding of GCSE assessment requirements and teaching post‑14 learners. You will provide developmental feedback, monitor learner progress and promote safeguarding, British Values and equality, diversity and inclusion.

This role offers flexible working arrangements, making it suitable for individuals seeking occasional teaching hours or those wishing to build a more substantial timetable, supported by ongoing CPD and mentoring opportunities.

Duties
  • Planning and delivering GCSE English Language lessons aligned to the AQA syllabus.
  • Assessing learner progress through formative and summative assessment methods.
  • Providing developmental feedback by marking learners' work and offering constructive support.
  • Creating inclusive learning environments using a range of teaching strategies.
  • Preparing learning resources, schemes of work, lesson plans and teaching materials.
  • Supporting learner development of personal, social and employability skills.
  • Maintaining accurate registers and associated learner documentation.
  • Promoting safeguarding practices and contributing to a safe learning environment.
  • Participating in mandatory training and continuous professional development activities.
  • Collaborating with support staff and colleagues to promote outstanding teaching and learning practice.
Candidate Requirements Essential
  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification and a relevant English subject specialist qualification.
  • Previous experience planning, teaching and assessing learners aged 14‑19 and/or adult learners.
  • Experience delivering GCSE English Language programmes, including supporting GCSE resit learners.
  • Ability to deliver engaging lessons using blended learning approaches.
  • Thorough knowledge of GCSE examination and accreditation requirements.
  • Experience providing effective developmental feedback that supports learner achievement.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and safe learner practices.
  • Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, inclusion and British Values.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with learners, colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Competence in using digital technologies to support teaching, learning and assessment.
Desirable
  • Experience teaching Skills for Life programmes within adult education environments.
  • Knowledge of learner support issues and progression opportunities.
  • Membership of the Society for Education and Training (SET) or similar professional body.
  • Awareness of health and safety responsibilities within educational settings.
