Healthcare Management, EHS / HSE Manager
An experienced HSE Manager is required to take full responsibility for all EHS matters at a busy manufacturing site. This is a key leadership role focused on ensuring legal compliance, maintaining management systems, promoting a strong safety culture, and driving continuous improvement across environmental and health & safety performance.
The successful candidate will need to have good working knowledge of COMAH and DSEAR.
Purpose of the RoleTo lead and manage all Environmental, Health and Safety activities on site, ensuring full compliance with relevant legislation and standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. The role is responsible for maintaining the EPA licence, managing internal health and safety systems, and embedding a proactive safety culture that eliminates injury, illness, and environmental harm.
Key Responsibilities EHS Leadership & Strategy- Take overall responsibility for the sites Environmental, Health & Safety performance.
- Implement, maintain and continuously improve the Health & Safety Management System.
- Maintain and develop ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Promote a positive EHS culture across all levels of the organisation.
- Provide expert EHS guidance and support to management and employees.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant UK Environmental, Health & Safety legislation.
- Maintain compliance with EPA licence requirements and waste management permit regulations (2001).
- Update and maintain the Company Safety Statement in line with legislative and operational changes.
- Report accidents and incidents to the HSE and insurers as required by law.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, including the Environment Agency and local authorit
- Lead internal audits, site inspections and compliance assessments.
- Oversee chemical management systems, ensuring compliance with COMAH, DSEAR and ATEX requirements.
- Maintain chemical and PPE databases.
- Develop and deliver health & safety training programmes (e.g., manual handling, first aid, chemical awareness).
- Conduct induction training for new employees and return-to-work inductions.
- Maintain comprehensive employee training records.
- Educate and coach managers and teams to improve safety performance.
- Manage, coach and develop the EHS Officer
This is a challenging role which would suit a passionate individual who enjoys driving change.
Previous experience of working as a HSE Manager within a manufacturing site is essential along with a relevant qualification (NEBOSH).
