Job Overview
Bayer is seeking a laboratory IT systems support specialist. Key prerequisites include experience in technical support of laboratory IT environments; good team player; excellent communications skills; demonstrated track record of delivering timely and effective IT technical support. Strong customer relationship skills are required for daily interaction with on‑site R&D scientists, IT enterprise and lab support personnel. Possess the ability to work within a Research & Development organization by providing ongoing support of laboratory software applications connecting to back‑end enterprise IT systems.
The candidate will assist with R&D teams for software and hardware automation deployments with standard and non‑standard functional PC, server operating system configurations with networking communications end points. Partner with researchers, the Bayer IT community, and external vendors to clarify requirements and recommend solutions.
- The candidate will provide end‑user support, troubleshooting, issue tracking and software documentation, and monitoring for R&D hardware and software automation teams.
- Strong hands‑on knowledge of Linux, Windows 10, 7 and Windows XP (the latter being nearly phased out), and ability to deploy desktop functional PC images, rebuilds from scratch, virtual ESXi and NAS storage supporting.
- Possesses knowledge and support of Microsoft Active Directory and creation of User/Computers, GPO’s, OU’s and latest server support.
- Ability to work with scientists to specify data management workflows and order specialized laboratory hardware, devices and software supporting as needed for new scientific instrumentation and automations being acquired.
- Strong knowledge of network data topologies, including understanding the configurations of firewalls, VPNs, cloud and both WAN/LAN routing protocols; working with the enterprise networking team for necessary configurations and support networked laboratory computers/instruments and troubleshooting connections while coordinated with the enterprise domain teams. Ensure continuous monitoring of all laboratory data operations.
- Implement backup procedures and restore activities for short and long‑term instrument data retentions.
- Work closely with researchers to support validation of GLP related activities and requirements, and maintain GLP‑related documentation.
- Experience in GLP regulated laboratory IT environments is preferred, or ability to quickly learn the unique requirements and procedures involved in validated systems.
- Eager to learn and understand Bayer Crop Science’s R&D IT environment, possesses the ability to be creative, pro‑active and take initiative in resolving R&D IT issues.
- Application database understanding of SQL, Oracle and related R&D software, LIMS niche preferred.
- Education:
Computer science degree, certifications, or business. - Specialized knowledge: IT automation processes, Linux, Microsoft Operating models, Extensive Active Directory knowledge for production environments, IT/OT.
- Skills:
Hands‑on corporate IT/OT networking. - Abilities:
Ability to lift 50lbs, computer boxes, monitors, walking distances. - Other characteristics:
Team working experience both local and enterprise IT teams. - Professional Certification:
