EHS Manager – Data Center Construction – Chesterton, IN

This opportunity is with an established General Contractor that specializes in converting existing buildings and structures into complex buildings and industrial complexes. The company is expanding into the Critical Facilities Market, applying its expertise to brownfield data center projects to convert existing buildings into data centers for Hyperscale, Colo, or Enterprise markets. We are seeking an EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) Manager to be onsite, managing Critical Site Safety for data center conversion near Gary, IN. This position is ideal for a systems-oriented leader with deep knowledge of environmental health and safety compliance and operations in high-risk, high-tech environments. The successful candidate will implement strategic safety initiatives, oversee emergency preparedness and business continuity planning, and foster a culture of proactive risk management across the site.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and implement health and safety standards, policies, and procedures including safety management systems, training, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct site audits for data center facilities operations and construction zones to ensure adherence to safety protocols and life safety requirements.
  • Ensure implementation of safety programs that exceed regulatory compliance across campus operations.
  • Develop from scratch SOPs, EOPs, and MOPs; review emergency response plans, business continuity programs, etc.
  • Maintain accurate safety records and ensure integrity of compliance data.
  • Analyze safety data and trends to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as the key liaison with internal compliance teams, providing expert guidance and interpretation of EHS standards.
  • Identify operational risks and collaborate with operations leadership to apply the hierarchy of controls for remediation.
  • Lead daily safety briefings and serve as the on-site authority for EHS-related matters.
  • Own performance metrics for EHS and develop annual improvement plans.
  • Conduct workplace risk assessments and hazard analyses.
  • Support root cause investigations for safety incidents and ensure implementation of corrective and preventive measures.
  • Deliver EHS regulatory training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable standards.
  • Communicate effectively with leadership and stakeholders to drive safety culture and accountability.
  • Provide consistent reporting, updates, and briefings on safety metrics and initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Operations, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience in a data center environment.
  • Previous experience working onsite at a Data Center supporting EHS for both facility operations and construction is required.
  • Previous experience managing inventory management or warehouse operations is a plus.
  • Previous Data Center Industry standards and infrastructure strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing site safety programs and regulatory compliance.
  • OSHA certifications are a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory safety standards; familiarity with CNESST and NEBOSH standards is a huge plus.
  • Proven leadership in developing safety programs, emergency response plans, and operational procedures – SOPs, MOPs, EOPs.
  • Experience managing audits, incident investigations, and training programs.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to interface across multiple departments.
  • Ability to influence safety culture and promote a proactive, high-performing team environment.
  • Military veterans with technical experience in electrical/mechanical systems are highly encouraged to apply, with experience in safety, facilities, or technical operations.
  • Relocate to Gary, IN or nearby community as this is an onsite role.
