Social Worker

QUALIFICATIONS:
As a minimum, must hold a Bachelor’s degree in job related area or meet the requirements for a certificate as a School Social Worker as required by the Maryland State Board of Education 13A.12.03.06 (MSW, LCSW, or LCSW-C)

Job GoalJOB GOAL:
The School Social Worker/ Behavior Interventionist will support students’ success in school by working directly with other teaching staff and administration to produce positive outcomes for students. The Social Worker/Behavior Support Specialist must be able to work with community resources and demonstrate a commitment and understanding of working with diverse populations.
- Works with individuals, groups, and families to optimize student success
- Provides integrated case management services and maintains case documentation
- Assesses student and family dynamics as related to school success
- Participates in various interdisciplinary teams as needed including, but not limited to: SST, IEP, 504
- Provides conflict mediation and resolution as needed
- Provides crisis intervention and management services
- Works with students individually or in a group setting to address issues that may interfere with school performance/success
- Assists families in accessing community services and collaborates with agencies to foster student success
- Utilizes theories of human behavior and development and methods of social work practice to support students
- Develops and manages school based mental health services and partnerships;
- Provides consultative services to KCPS staff and families.
- Demonstrates core knowledge and skills in the areas of: social work ethics; program development and management skills; social work modalities and procedures; characteristics of student populations; multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary activities; and public education and Federal and state laws
- Advocates for children and families within the school setting and with outside agencies
- Identifies and develops resources and services to meet needs of school community
- Facilitates effective delivery of school-based resources and services
- Participates in local/county organizations to represent and advocate of need of students
- Collaborates and/or lead effort to develop behavior modification plans to foster student success
- Assists in the implementation of the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Program (PBIS)
- Maintains regular and on time attendance
- Reacts to change productively and performs other duties as assigned
As found in the Agreement Between the Kent County Teachers Association and The Board of Education of Kent County. Ten (10) month position.
SalarySalary Lane:
Teachers Lane, Salary established by the Superintendent.
FLSA STATUS:
Exempt.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
