Full-Time Environmental Health Specialist Supervisor – Soil & Wells
The main purpose of this position is to perform supervisory-level work involving inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with environmental health laws and regulations, as well as routine field work in Environmental Health for public health protection. This position focuses on the permitting, construction, and maintenance of wells and septic systems, and on assessing, monitoring, and managing risks related to soil contamination and groundwater quality, particularly as they pertain to drinking water wells and land use.
Minimum QualificationsEducation: Determined by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.
Experience: Two years of experience performing inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with environmental health laws and regulations.
Notes:
- Candidates may substitute possession of a Master of Public Health or Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering classifications or Environmental Engineering specialty codes in the Engineering and Natural Resources field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in permitting, monitoring, and maintenance of wells and septic systems.
- Experience in assessing, monitoring, and managing risks related to soil contamination and groundwater quality, especially as it pertains to drinking water wells and land use.
- Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists.
- Employees in this classification may be assigned duties requiring the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license in the State of Maryland.
