The Day Trippers Driver is an integral member of the Safe Ride team, responsible for ensuring the safe and enjoyable transportation of students on weekend day trips to various destinations within a 90-minute drive from Chestertown, MD. Drivers are scheduled in advance and are encouraged to commit to at least two weekends per month. This role requires a commitment to safety, professionalism, and providing excellent service to passengers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shift Selection:
- Choose and commit to shifts in advance based on the Day Trippers schedule. Typical trips occur on weekends and may vary in duration depending on the destination.
- Safe Transportation:
- Safely operate designated college vehicles to transport students to and from planned destinations, adhering to all traffic laws and safety protocols.
- Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections and ensure the vehicle is clean and well-maintained throughout the trip.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and courtesy while interacting with passengers, ensuring their comfort and safety during the trip.
- Assist students with boarding, unloading, and managing any belongings they may have during the trip.
- Trip Coordination:
- Work closely with the Day Trippers Manager to ensure all trip details, including routes and schedules, are followed accurately.
- Communicate any issues or changes in plans promptly to the Day Trippers Manager.
- Compliance:
- Adhere to all college policies, traffic laws, and safety regulations while driving.
- Ensure all passengers comply with the Safe Ride Code of Conduct during trips.
- Record Keeping:
- Accurately log hours worked, trip mileage, and other relevant details as required by the Day Trippers Manager.
- Safety Focus:
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, following all Safe Ride and Day Trippers protocols to ensure the well-being of passengers and other road users.
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a generally clear driving record. (Refer to the Transportation Department website for details on the driver clearance process.)
- Driver Clearance:
- Ability to undergo and successfully complete the college’s driver clearance process, which may include background checks and training sessions.
- Ability to work independently, manage responsibilities during trips, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Customer Service:
- Strong commitment to providing excellent customer service in all interactions.
Working Conditions:
- Drivers must be prepared to operate vehicles in various weather conditions and maintain a calm demeanor in potentially stressful situations.
- This role typically involves weekend shifts, with trips lasting several hours depending on the destination.
