Tek Pro Support Services, LLC (TSS) is seeking a Technical Lead - Mail & Secondary Screening to serve as the senior technical specialist for secondary mail and package screening operations at the Cheverly Logistics Center (CLC), Maryland.

This mid- to senior-level, hands-on technical position requires substantial mailroom experience and advanced knowledge of secondary screening, specialized screening equipment, package accountability, chain of custody, quality control, procedural compliance, and technical training.

The Technical Lead will perform and coordinate complex screening activities, serve as a subject-matter resource, assist with screening decisions and equipment use, maintain operational readiness, troubleshoot routine technical and process issues, and ensure screening activities comply with approved procedures. Limited technical/task oversight of up to three FTE may be assigned.

What You'll Do:
  • Perform and technically coordinate day-to-day secondary screening operations.
  • Ensure mail and packages requiring secondary screening are properly identified, staged, screened, documented, and released.
  • Maintain proper separation of unscreened, screened/cleared, held, suspicious or incident-controlled, and specially controlled material.
  • Ensure required screening is completed before packages enter normal distribution.
  • Monitor compliance with screening procedures, PPE requirements, package-handling standards, and chain-of-custody requirements.
  • Ensure package-tracking records accurately reflect physical movement and custody.
  • Verify required receipt, checkpoint, transfer, delivery, and exception documentation.
  • Conduct quality-control reviews of screening, staging, package condition, tracking transactions, inspection markings, and custody transfers.
  • Coordinate direct handoffs of sensitive, priority, Director, executive-level, and other Government-designated material.
  • Provide technical demonstrations, OJT support, refresher training, and qualification assistance.
  • Identify technical training gaps and recommend focused retraining.
  • Maintain visibility over packages placed on hold and ensure each has a known location, status, responsible owner, and next action.
  • Coordinate screening-related activities with Receiving, Shipping, Mailroom, Drivers/Couriers, Middle Team, Supply Technicians, supervisors, and Government personnel.
  • Immediately report significant screening, safety, package-accountability, or equipment issues.
  • Assist with incident documentation, package-history reviews, and corrective-action follow-up.
  • Maintain an organized, controlled, and operationally ready secondary screening area.
  • Serve as the senior technical resource for recognizing and responding to suspicious or potentially hazardous mail and packages.
  • Reinforce stop-work requirements and established procedures when suspicious or unresolved conditions are identified.
  • Monitor screening equipment readiness and report alarms, malfunctions, or abnormal conditions.
  • Operate, support, or provide technical oversight for authorized X-ray, biological, chemical, radiation, RF/RFID, package-tracking, and other Government-approved screening systems following required training and authorization.
  • Provide limited task direction and technical oversight for a Secondary Screening team of up to three FTE, when assigned.
  • Coordinate daily screening assignments and priorities.
  • Monitor workload, equipment availability, and technical coverage.
  • Provide technical coaching, procedural guidance, and hands-on assistance.
  • Support technical onboarding, OJT, and qualification of screening personnel.
What You Bring:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three to five (3-5) years of progressive mailroom experience, with demonstrated growth into senior, technical, specialized screening, accountable mail, quality-control, or subject-matter responsibilities.
  • Experience performing technically advanced mailroom or screening duties and serving as a subject-matter resource to other employees.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed standard operating procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and package accountability.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Ability to recognize abnormal package conditions and follow established escalation procedures.
  • Ability to use computers, scanners, and electronic tracking systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
