Sidwell Friends School, a coeducational Quaker day school with campuses in NW Washington, DC and Bethesda, MD is seeking Auxiliary Programs Assistants. This position provides support and supervision of students in one or more of the auxiliary programs – Extended Day, Enrichment workshops and shuttle. The Auxiliary Programs Office is responsible for the design and implementation of a number of programs on both the Washington, DC and Bethesda campuses including the Extended Day Programs, after-school enrichment workshops (SPARC), Early Childhood Early Learning Center, Fox Den School Store and Cafe, Intra-Campus Shuttle, Special event programs, and Summer Programs.
Key Responsibilities Extended Day ProgramPlan and implement fun, safe, and engaging activities for participants during the Extended Day Program on the Bethesda, MD or Washington, DC campus. Hours for the program will be Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 2:30 – 6:00 pm and Tuesdays from 1:30 – 6:00 pm. Daily responsibilities for Assistants include:
- Interact with children to support play, exploration, and learning
- Plan and implement activities that meet the health and safety protocols
- Meet the individual needs of each child
- Participate in staff and training meetings
- Present expectations that are appropriate to the child’s age and developmental level
- Communicate appropriately and professionally with parents and fellow staff
- Build teamwork among staff
Assist with the coordination of the afternoon shuttle bus which may include:
- Acting as the shuttle monitor as needed
- Providing supervision before and after the shuttle, contacting participants’ guardians as needed if not picked up
- Engaging in conversations with the participants and families
- Coordinating the roster and attendance lists
Communicating with participants as needed about special schedules, behavior, etc.
- Assist with the special half day and professional development events
- Communicate with families via phone calls/emails
- Classify payment of invoices, purchase orders, purchasing cards, payments to/from subcontractors
- Process reimbursements for instructors/staff for any supplies purchased individually
- Assist with Fox Den Pop Up Events – including set up, packing and unpacking inventory, assisting with merchandise sales, interacting with customers.

- Must be multi-task oriented
- Minimum of 1 year related work experience
- Experience/interest in working with children and families in a camp/after school environment
- Ability to lift boxes/materials of 30 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time: events, carpool, shuttle bus
- Ability to walk around campus and buildings
- Ability to sit and interact with children on the floor, playground, grass
- Ability to travel between campuses
This is an hourly position (15-19 hours per week) and the candidate must be able to work afternoons 2:30-6:00 PM. Successful candidates should be 21 years of age or older, possess a high school diploma and have prior experience working with children. Additional qualifications include effective communication skills, flexibility, patience, a sense of humor, and a demonstrated love for working with young children and their families.
Please list if you have a current CPR/AED and First Aid certification as it is required; however, if you are not CPR/AED certified you will have the opportunity to complete the course upon hire.
- Hourly Rate $18.00–$25.00 per hour. Hourly rate commensurate with experience and qualifications.
