Senior Staff Network Solutions Engineer – GEICO
Base Pay Range$/yr – $/yr
Role OverviewSenior staff engineers work with staff and senior engineers to innovate, build, and enhance complex network systems. They lead the strategy and execution of technical roadmaps that increase product velocity and unlock new engineering capabilities. The position requires deep technical knowledge supporting large‑scale and complex networks, and a strong understanding of networking protocols, technologies, and standards.
Responsibilities- Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of complex network solutions to meet business requirements.
- Maintain network standards, policies, and best practices for consistency, reliability, and security across the organization.
- Collaborate with Security to enforce scalable security best practices.
- Design, deploy, and support SD‑WAN and wireless solutions, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.
- Implement and maintain wired and wireless security measures.
- Identify and implement innovative network technologies to drive operational efficiency and business value.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends for strategic investments in network infrastructure.
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert and escalation point for complex network issues.
- Share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
- Determine and support resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, and measure outcomes to ensure desired results.
- Configure and maintain SD‑WAN edge devices, gateways, and controllers.
- Develop customized SD‑WAN designs and configurations with stakeholders.
- Monitor network performance and proactively resolve issues to maximize uptime.
- Act as a mentor, coaching the engineering and product community.
- Influence and educate executives.
- Participate in on‑call rotation for after‑hours support.
- Expert‑level knowledge of networking protocols, technologies, and standards (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, QoS, SDN, SD‑WAN).
- Hands‑on experience with network equipment from leading vendors (Cisco, Aruba, Palo Alto Networks).
- Strong understanding of network security principles, best practices, and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in architecture assessment and proposals.
- Experience designing and implementing SD‑WAN solutions.
- Analytical problem‑solving skills with quantitative approaches.
- Ability to excel in a fast‑paced, startup‑like environment.
- 10+ years in Network Engineering.
- 8+ years of experience with architecture and design.
- 6+ years of experience in open‑source frameworks.
- 4+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.
The annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are considered to arrive at the final hourly rate or annual salary, including role scope, experience, education, location, and market considerations.
