Line Cook

Salary Range $17.65 per hour

Position Summary

As a Line Cook, you will be responsible for the precise preparation and flawless execution of food production activities in our kitchen. Your role is crucial in ensuring that all dishes meet the highest standards of quality and presentation. You will work closely with the culinary team to prepare ingredients, cook dishes to perfection, and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Your attention to detail and commitment to excellence will help create an exceptional dining experience for our guests. By following recipes and adhering to food safety standards, you will contribute to the overall success of our Food & Beverage (F&B) outlets. Your passion for cooking and dedication to your craft will be key in delivering delicious and visually appealing dishes consistently.

This is a part-time position with evening shifts; weekend availability required, including Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Essential Functions

  • Complete various assigned production and preparation tasks.
  • Ensure that all production equipment is working and report any problems immediately to the supervisor.
  • Refer any guest problems or complaints to the Executive Chef.
  • Prepare and arrange food according to standardized recipes.
  • Continually update knowledge of hotel recipes, food preparation, and presentation.
  • Store and handle food properly by following HACCP procedures.
  • Report and document any observed safety hazards, conditions, or unsafe practices to management immediately.
  • Coordinate activities to ensure efficient service and kitchen operations.
  • Maintain high health standards in the cleaning of work areas and equipment.
  • Ensure work areas are properly cleaned and sanitized at the beginning, during, and at the end of the shift.
  • Work closely with the Sous Chef to create new menu items for the cook-to-order line.
  • Date and label prepared products for rotation.
  • Requisition food products from the storeroom.
  • Follow proper check handling and food issuing procedures.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all work rules, procedures, and policies established by the hotel, including those in the employee handbook.
  • The hotel operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Department schedules must accommodate fluctuating business demands, and employees may be asked to work shifts other than those they prefer or normally work.

Experience

  • Prior kitchen or food service experience
  • Familiarity with basic cooking techniques (grilling, sautéing, frying, etc.)
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to follow recipes and plating guidelines
  • Experience with kitchen equipment (knives, ovens, grills, etc.)
  • Teamwork and communication skills in a kitchen setting

Education

  • Culinary school certificate or associate degree– beneficial but not required
  • Food handlers' permit or certification– preferred
  • On-the-job training or apprenticeship under a head chef– a valuable advantage

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Operational knowledge of kitchen equipment.
