Tallgrass Energy is seeking a motivated Environmental Compliance Manager to join our Capital Projects Team. This position will be based in Cheyenne, Wyoming and will support permitting and compliance activities associated with large infrastructure development & construction projects. This role offers an opportunity to work with a dynamic team supporting major energy infrastructure projects. This role will report directly to the Director of Environmental permitting.
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities:
- Coordinate environmental permitting and compliance for the successful design and construction of processing facilities, pipelines, terminals, power generation facilities and associated infrastructure.
- Successfully implement and manage regulatory compliance programs and best management practices (i.e. SPCC, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan/SWPPP, Erosion & Sediment Control, Waste Management Plans, etc.).
- Recommend and verify implementation of corrective actions, timelines, and closure; conduct follow-up inspections to ensure remediation and permit compliance.
- Engage externally with third-party environmental consultants regarding permitting and compliance-related activities, including monitoring and reporting requirements.
- Perform interdisciplinary coordination amongst project stakeholders (engineering, land, legal, corporate affairs, etc.) to inform critical permitting and compliance details and provide pertinent updates during project meetings.
- Develop appropriate scopes of work and manage environmental contractors, as required.
- Review contractor provided materials, deliverables and reports.
- Develop training materials and provide environmental training to employees and contractors.
- Promote safe and compliant environmental practices.
- Prepare and maintain clear inspection reports, incident reports, non-compliance notices, and permit-required submittals; maintain records and logs.
Qualifications:
- Experience working in Wyoming and specifically with the various programs administered by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) is preferred.
- Experience with federal agencies (e.g. BLM, NPS, USACE, USFS, USFWS, BIA, FERC), their regulations, and the resources they manage.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations (e.g. CWA, ESA, NHPA, MBTA, NPDES, and NEPA). Experience with EPA’s CAA regulations and rules is a plus.
- Firm understanding of NPDES permitting, reporting and compliance for construction and operational activities.
- Experience in supporting spill and environmental incident response activities.
- Ability to interpret and/or apply environmental requirements and translate regulatory regulations, permits, and plan requirements into compliance guidance.
- Preferred experience in supporting construction compliance activities (Environmental Inspector management).
- Experience in the development of and providing project environmental training to contractors.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with working within an independent project team structure with other groups and roles, such as Land, Engineering, and Operations.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask while working under pressure to meet project deadlines simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel to project sites (up to 30% travel possible at times).
Education/
Experience:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering or related degrees. Other degrees will be considered if combined with experience in environmental permitting and compliance in the oil and gas industry.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental permitting and compliance with demonstrable increase in responsibility and independence.
- Experience with oil and gas processing, midstream, transmission, and terminal operations preferred.
- Experience with power generating facilities is a plus.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
