Location: Cheyenne, WY
Salary InformationBase pay range: $89,376.00/yr - $/yr. Pay determined by skill and experience.

- Certification:
Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) certification. - Educational program:
Completion of NMTCB-recognized nuclear medicine technology program or accredited by JRCNMT or other DOE recognized agencies, culminating in a certificate, associate, baccalaureate, or master’s degree. - Clinical training sufficient for radiation safety, instrumentation, clinical procedures, and radio-pharmacy.
- Experience:
1 year of creditable experience at the next lower grade level directly related to this position. - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
Ability to produce and assess high quality scans and quality control images; knowledge of ancillary equipment; understanding of physiologic and radiopharmaceutical processes; ability to obtain and document pre-therapy preparation; development of new imaging protocols; analysis of radiation exposure; packaging of radioactive material; ability to perform advanced therapy dose administration; proficiency in catheter placement; knowledge of side effects; ability to manage patient communication;
critical decision making; maintain confidentiality; work under stressful conditions. - Physical requirements:
bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, kneeling, crawling, squatting, lifting, carrying, manipulation of equipment; patient assistance and positioning; walking and prolonged standing; reading written orders and equipment controls; near visual acuity; ability to speak and hear.
- Produce and assess high quality scans and quality control images.
- Use ancillary equipment and understand impact on study outcomes.
- Analyze physiologic processes related to radiopharmaceutical uptake and artifacts.
- Obtain, assess, and document pre-therapy patient preparation; provide post-therapy patient education.
- Analyze increased radiation exposure; recommend reduction measures.
- Analyze consequences of improper packaging and take appropriate actions.
- Prepare, assay, and administer radiopharmaceutical doses by injection, inhalation, or ingestion.
- Introduce intravenous catheters for administration.
- Familiar with side effects of radiopharmaceuticals and related medications.
- Take immediate action to remedy noted effects.
- Explain procedure and answer patient questions.
- Obtain clinical data from electronic chart and requisition.
- Operate nuclear medicine equipment: gamma cameras, well counters, GM survey meters, thyroid uptake systems, dose calibrators.
- Perform exposure rate calculations.
- Conduct full range of nuclear medicine diagnostic imaging and in‑vitro and therapeutic procedures, including advanced computer‑assisted studies.
- Stay updated with new imaging agents, procedures, and write protocols.
- Analyze procedure images for quality; obtain additional images when necessary.
- Maintain three‑dimensional anatomical knowledge.
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals correctly.
- Utilize patient identification methods and radiation safety precautions.
- Perform radiation surveys and distribute monitoring devices.
- Monitor and store radioactive waste; understand film badge exposure.
- Prepare studies for physician interpretation and record data accurately.
- Schedule patient procedures considering availability, conditions, contraindications, and urgency.
- Inform patients of preparations (e.g., NPO, diet, bowel prep).
- Apply ALARA principles to maintain exposures.
- Ensure compliance with Nuclear Medicine‑Medical Center, VISN, and Radiation Safety policies.
- Minimize contamination and exposure to self, public, and coworkers.
- Coordinate with Radiopharmacy and Radiation Safety Officer when needed.
- Calibrate equipment and maintain instruments with quality control standards.
- Participate in research projects involving nuclear medicine studies.
- Instruct students, new technologists, residents, and others on techniques and equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Monday – Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
