SALARY: $36,135 to $50,589 Annually

General

Job Description

To perform semi-skilled and skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and related service activities to City Parks. Operate heavy construction and maintenance equipment in support of Parks operations. Employees within this class perform the full range of duties as assigned.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate various hand tools; operate light equipment (mowers, trucks, carts, etc.); clean and maintain equipment including pre/post trip inspections; operate various heavy equipment (dump truck, snowplows, tractors, etc.).
  • Compile and organize materials to be used on jobs assigned.
  • Perform grounds maintenance activities for City Parks, such as snow removal, mowing, trimming grass, maintaining plants and shrubs, laying sod, applying pesticides and fertilizers, aerating, fence repair, etc.
  • Perform grounds maintenance activities for City athletic facilities, such as field striping, preparing infields, cleaning dugouts, mound, and warning track maintenance, etc.
  • Collect and remove trash and debris from Park grounds daily to ensure areas are clean and aesthetically pleasing, including cleaning public restrooms and shelters.
  • Assist in maintaining playgrounds and making minor repairs.
  • Participate in special events and on call responsibilities.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude towards the public and co-workers. Be a role model/mentor for other employees within the City of Cheyenne.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic methods and techniques of general construction, maintenance and repair related to the areas of work assigned.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment and tools used in work assigned.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Perform heavy manual labor.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work.
  • Being on call and work weekends, emergency snow removal, special events, etc.
  • Perform work independently in the absence of supervision.
Qualifications for the Job

Required:

High school diploma or GED.

Preferred:

Two (2) years of experience performing field maintenance work.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. The employee is also required to maintain physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

Working Environment

Outdoor parks environment; exposure to noise, dust, toxic chemicals, and inclement weather conditions; work with machinery; work or inspect in confined spaces; work irregular hours.
