About INS Engineering
Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Austin, Texas, INS Engineering is a privately held power systems engineering firm with offices in Houston and Albany, New York. We help utilities, developers, grid operators and data center teams connect new generation, energy storage and large loads to the grid, from studies through commissioning, across all major U.S. power markets.
Our work has supported projects like a 400 MW / 1 GWh battery storage facility in Texas and a 100 MW solar project in Ohio. We’re a growing, remote team that regularly gets together in person, guided by three values:
Reliability, Innovation and Commitment. Our senior engineers mentor the next generation, and we stay with clients from kickoff to commissioning.
The Role
Develop and expand strategic client relationships in the Midwest and Central U.S., with particular emphasis on MISO and relevant PJM customers.
We welcome established technical business developers and electrical engineers seeking a move into commercial leadership. Technical credibility, relationships, curiosity and the ability to earn trust matter more than a conventional sales title or fixed years of business development experience.
What You’ll DoOriginate and grow accounts
- Originate new client relationships and grow existing accounts, alongside INS engineering teams, with utilities, developers, EPCs, independent power producers, large-load and data center customers.
- Develop a sustainable regional pipeline, support account expansion and deliver measurable revenue growth.
- Develop a targeted prospecting strategy, including cold outreach to new accounts, and build lasting relationships with technical and commercial decision‑makers.
- Represent INS at in‑person client visits, conferences and industry events; maintain accurate CRM records and opportunity forecasts.
- Identify customer challenges and connect opportunities to INS capabilities in studies, interconnection, transmission/distribution, substations, protection and control, SCADA and automation, and commissioning.
- Partner with engineering leaders on discovery meetings, scopes, proposals, account planning and commercial pursuits.
Required
- Electrical engineering degree or substantial hands‑on electrical/power engineering experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to discuss technical engineering services credibly with utilities, EPCs, developers and engineering stakeholders.
- Established relationships or demonstrable market knowledge in MISO and PJM utilities, developers, EPCs and grid‑related buyers strongly preferred.
- A personable, approachable and driven communicator who builds trust with engineering clients, with commercial curiosity and willingness to prospect.
- Ability to travel approximately 25–50%, including occasional consecutive weeks, depending on client needs.
- Traditional sales/BD experience is welcome but not required; engineers with strong client‑facing potential can build BD skills with INS.
- Experience navigating MISO interconnection, transmission planning, utility procurement or regional developer relationships.
- Familiarity with steady‑state/EMT studies, BESS and renewable integration, protection and control, substations or SCADA.
- Prior work in power engineering consulting, utilities, IPPs, renewables, data centers or EPC firms.
Don't check every box? If you meet most of the requirements and this role excites you, we encourage you to apply.
