SEN Teaching Assistant – Chichester

Pay: £85 – £100 per day (Dependent on Experience)

A specialist provision in Chichester is seeking a committed and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join their small, supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young people with significant SEMH needs, helping them re-engage with learning in a structured and therapeutic environment.
About the Provision
This provision forms part of a wider Special School and Alternative Provision supporting children and young people who are unable to access mainstream education due to social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
The school offers:
A nurturing and highly supportive environment where students can develop emotionally and academically
Small class sizes (typically 1–5 students) enabling personalised, relationship-based support
A curriculum designed to build emotional intelligence, resilience and meaningful qualifications
Learners aged 11–16, many with EHCPs, requiring a consistent, trauma-informed approach
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to support the delivery of English and Maths to small groups of students with SEMH needs.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting the planning and delivery of adaptive English and Maths lessons
Building strong, trusting relationships with vulnerable learners
Assisting with emotional regulation, engagement and resilience
Helping to maintain a safe, structured and therapeutic learning environment
Working collaboratively with SEN and pastoral teams to meet individual needs
What We’re Looking For
Experience supporting children or young people (school-based or transferable)
Experience working with SEMH students is desirable but not essential
A calm, consistent and nurturing approach
Strong behaviour regulation and de-escalation skills
Excellent communication and a restorative, trauma-informed mindset
