A specialist provision in Chichester is seeking a committed and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join their small, supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young people with significant SEMH needs, helping them re‑engage with learning in a structured and therapeutic environment.

About the Provision

This provision forms part of a wider Special School and Alternative Provision supporting children and young people who are unable to access mainstream education due to social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

What the School Offers
  • A nurturing and highly supportive environment where students can develop emotionally and academically
  • Small class sizes (typically 1-5 students) enabling personalised, relationship‑based support
  • A curriculum designed to build emotional intelligence, resilience and meaningful qualifications
  • Learners aged 11-16, many with EHCPs, requiring a consistent, trauma‑informed approach
The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to support the delivery of English and Maths to small groups of students with SEMH needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of adaptive English and Maths lessons
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with vulnerable learners
  • Assisting with emotional regulation, engagement and resilience
  • Helping to maintain a safe, structured and therapeutic learning environment
  • Working collaboratively with SEN and pastoral teams to meet individual needs
What We're Looking For
  • Experience supporting children or young people (school-based or transferable)
  • Experience working with SEMH students is desirable but not essential
  • A calm, consistent and nurturing approach
  • Strong behaviour regulation and de‑escalation skills
  • Excellent communication and a restorative, trauma‑informed mindset
Benefits of Working with Supply Desk
  • Competitive daily rates
  • A dedicated consultant offering ongoing support
  • Access to CPD including SEMH and behaviour training
  • Opportunities for long‑term and permanent roles
  • £100 referral bonus for recommending a friend
