Looking for a rewarding career? Join our friendly and forward-thinking Haematology team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. Based mainly at St Richards Hospital, with support to Worthing Hospital, you’ll enjoy the work‑life balance of living in two of the South East’s most desirable coastal towns. We offer a supportive environment, excellent development opportunities, and access to well‑equipped labs. Our current platforms include Abbott Alinity Hq and Hs, Tosoh G11, Werfen ACL Tops, Ortho Vision, and Starr Sed.
We also provide haemoglobinopathy screening for the west of the Trust. We welcome HCPC‑registered Biomedical Scientists, including those working towards their IBMS Specialist Portfolio (Band 6 awarded upon completion). Our department is ISO 15189 accredited and IBMS approved for training. The laboratory is implementing a shift system during 2025/26, which the post holder will be expected to participate in. Help shape the future of diagnostics at UHSussex — where innovation, learning, and community thrive.
Once trained you will be expected to:
- Work to standards dictated by Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and UKAS 15181 and 17025.
- Use all available IT and LIMS.
- Answer the phone and handle clinical enquiries, passing to more senior staff as required.
- Maintain the day‑to‑day operation of the department by performing preventative routine daily and weekly maintenance, cleaning equipment, running Quality Assurance, partaking in External Quality Assurance, and re‑validating (re‑verification) of equipment once repaired or after engineer preventive maintenance.
- Monitor stock levels across sites.
- Maintain a clean and tidy department as described by GMP.
- Accept deliveries.
- Arrange for transfer of items and confirmation of send/receipt across sites.
- Maintain your training records.
- Monitor temperatures of our monitored and temperature‑controlled equipment and department areas by using Tutela and local procedures.
- Report all non‑conformance on our Quality Management System using Q Pulse.
