COMPENSATION: $23.00 - $29.00 per hour

DEPARTMENT: University Public Engagement

LOCATION: This position will be in-person at Chico State University's Laxson Auditorium with the possibility of working in other on-campus performing arts venues and outdoor special events.

RESIDENCY:
Candidate must be a California resident. Chico State Enterprises is not a sponsoring agency for staff and management positions (i.e. H-1B Visas).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Stagehand/audio technician has the primary responsibility of performing any/all general theater/performing arts venue stagehand and audio technician jobs and duties. Work hours are scheduled as needed and vary depending on artist load in/load out schedules, theater use and performance schedules, facility user needs and theater maintenance needs. Work should be expected to be completed on weekdays, weekends, evenings, early mornings, and occasional holidays.

Work schedule will be as flexible as the production schedule and other work requirements allow.

• Set up and testing of audio equipment before performances
• Perform routine maintenance of audio equipment and systems
• Produce sound/audio effects or music based on design and director specifications.
• Familiarity with multiple audio mixing consoles would be preferable.
• Program and operate special effect units such as fog and haze machines.
• Enhance sound quality and volume during live performances
• Troubleshoot and resolve potential issues during live performances
• Research new audio equipment and trends
• Collaborate with other show/production crew/departments such as video, lighting, com, carpentry, house, etc.
• Load-in and load-out of shows.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

• One - two years prior basic stagehand/theater experience with emphasis in audio reinforcement and sound systems (design, set up, application and rigging)
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to calmly, effectively, and professionally communicate to resolve conflicts, ask informed questions, and relay information to others.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects concurrently and meet production requirements and deadlines.
• Ability to creatively solve problems and foster a collaborative environment.
• Basic rigging knowledge.
• Experience supervising stagehands.
