Dean of the College of Business

California State University, Chico (Chico State) is seeking an innovative and experienced leader to serve as its next Dean of the College of Business.

Overview

Reporting to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean of the College of Business is the lead academic and administrative officer for the college, providing leadership in advancing its mission, programs, and operations. The dean promotes academic excellence in teaching, research, and service, and ensures responsible management of fiscal and human resources. This person will be a visible, externally oriented leader with a demonstrated record of securing philanthropic support, corporate partnerships, and revenue‑generating academic programs that strengthen long‑term financial sustainability.

The College of Business—one of seven colleges and one of the largest majors on campus—is among the top 6 percent of all business schools worldwide accredited by the AACSB International. The college includes several academic departments:

Qualifications

This role requires an earned doctorate and a record of academic accomplishments to qualify for a tenured appointment at the rank of professor in one of the college's academic disciplines. The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least five years of progressively responsible administrative and supervisory experience with a thorough knowledge of university and system‑wide infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of effective supervisory practices, employee‑employer relationships, and unit management.
  • Experience managing public records, contracts, labor/management relations in a collaborative collective bargaining environment, and the AACSB International accreditation process.
  • A steadfast commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Entrepreneurial, resourceful, and collaborative leadership embodying the highest levels of integrity and accountability.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills—self‑motivated, proactive, empathetic, and service‑oriented—with a keen focus on the organization served.

    Salary & Benefits

    The CSU classification salary range is $121,272–$389,292 per year. However, the anticipated hiring range for this position is $245,000–$270,000 per year. The final annual salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and related experience. This position is eligible for relocation allowance.
