Neuro Trauma ICU Registered Nurse (Nights)
Chico, CA
Position overview
This night-shift Neuro Trauma / Surgical ICU RN role cares for high-acuity neuro and trauma patients in a 12-bed Level II trauma unit with a typical 2:1 nurse-to-patient ratio. The nurse will provide advanced critical care, support complex interventions, and float to other intensive and acute care units as needed.
What you’ll do- Deliver comprehensive critical care to neuro-trauma patients, including frequent neuro assessments and complex hemodynamic monitoring.
- Manage patients with intracranial pressure (ICP) monitors, lumbar drains, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), following unit protocols.
- Use EPIC for accurate, timely documentation of assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses.
- Perform rapid assessments, recognize subtle changes in condition, and respond promptly to emergencies and codes.
- Collaborate with intensivists, neurosurgeons, hospitalists, and the broader interdisciplinary team to drive optimal outcomes.
- Float to Cardiovascular ICU, Telemetry, ICU/CCU, and Med-Surg units based on staffing and patient care needs.

12-hour NOC shifts, 7:00 PM start. - Location:

- At least 5 years of recent acute critical care nursing experience.
- Demonstrated Level II (or higher) trauma ICU experience.
- Proficiency with EPIC for ICU documentation and order management.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Advanced neuro-trauma skills, strong critical thinking, and the ability to manage complex patients independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced neuro-trauma assessment and intervention, including ICP and drain management.
- Rapid decision-making, escalation, and emergency response in high-acuity settings.
- Clear communication, collaboration, and teamwork across multidisciplinary critical care teams.
- Adaptability and resilience when floating between ICU, stepdown, and acute units.
- Meticulous clinical documentation and adherence to safety, quality, and infection control standards.
