SUMMARY
The City of Chicopee’s Assessors’ Office is hiring a Clerk who is secondarily responsible for excise tax matters and answering the office phones, waiting on the public at the office counter and data entry.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Answering the phone
- Waiting on the general public at the counter
- Preparation of general correspondence, the filing of maps and property record cards
- Assists with the administrative duties of the excise tax clerk. Including the breakdown and issuance of the excise tax commitment, issuance, and maintenance of abatement documentation, monthly reports to the Auditor, communication and reports to DOR and RMV, maintenance of dealer and repair plates and exemption plates
- Assists with the scheduling of the sales appointments for Assessors
- Assist with the review of exemptions, abatements, and record keeping
- Working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft word, excel
- Assists with record keeping and other related duties as the need arises
- Learning minimum requirements of other office jobs and related duties in case of emergency

- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. – Required
- Ability to communicate and work with public and under pressure.
- Good computer and telephone skills.
