Special Education Teacher Assistant - Instructor — West Springfield, MA, USA
• Chicopee, MA, USA
40 hrs. per week, Monday–Friday, 8-hour days with a 30-minute unpaid midday break. 1 mandatory morning meeting per week at 7:00 am or 7:40 am. This is a Year-Round Program.
Are you passionate about igniting positive change in the lives of students with Autism and other developmental disabilities? If your answer is yes, join our team as a Teacher Assistant (TA). At our May Center School in Chicopee or West Springfield, you’ll support students ages 3–21 with Autism and developmental disabilities in achieving their goals and aspirations, providing compassionate care, facilitating personalized assistance, and engaging in skill-building activities 1:1 using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methods.

Responsibilities- Collaborative Teamwork:
Partner closely with lead teachers to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and meet each student’s unique needs. - Direct Support:
Provide hands-on assistance with personal care tasks and manage behavioral crises to foster a safe, inclusive classroom environment. - Positive Communication:
Apply positive behavior support strategies to develop social skills, communication abilities, and student independence. - Cultivating a Supportive Atmosphere:
Create a warm, respectful, and empowering learning environment for students. - Documentation and Reporting:
Document student progress and maintain open communication with parents, caregivers, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Age:
Must be 18 years or older. - Education:
High School Diploma or GED required. - Driver’s License:
Valid U.S. driver’s license with 1+ years of driving experience. - Availability: 40-hour work week, Monday–Friday, 8-hour days with a 30-minute unpaid midday break; 1 mandatory morning meeting per week; punctuality required.
- Experience:
1+ years of experience working with people with disabilities or in a related education field. - Interpersonal
Skills:
Strong empathy and communication skills for diverse abilities and backgrounds. - Qualities:
Reliability, compassion, patience, and a genuine passion for making a positive impact. - Adaptability & Flexibility:
Ability to adjust to varying needs and respond to changing environments and situations.
- Compensation: $23.50–$24.50 per hour, depending on experience.
