Overview
Process Technician role at Viant Medical. Highly independent and responsible position reporting to the Production Manager. The Process Technician serves as an expert on injection molding machines, auxiliary and processing equipment with strong troubleshooting skills. Responsible for mold changes, setup and process troubleshooting, and providing technical training, direction, and hands-on leadership.
Responsibilities- Set up, start and process injection-molding machines in accordance with standard work.
- Ensure all secondary equipment is set up and running accurately.
- Diagnose production problems and make adjustments.
- Document changes to cycles and job logs during setup/start up.
- Communicate and repair all malfunctions of equipment or tooling to the proper support department.
- Complete TPM (Total Preventative Maintenance) on assigned presses.
- Complete all documentation pertaining to injection molding machine setup and tool cleaning/prepping.
- Ensure molds are cleaned/prepped and tagged/staged properly per standard work.
- Assist operator teams with operating problems and in training Process Technician I’s as needed.
- Material handling and quality checks.
- Use problem-solving skills to troubleshoot molding machines and auxiliary equipment, determine root cause of machine alarms, and make adjustments or repair recommendations.
- Oversee validations and tool approvals for the assigned shift.
- Evaluate resins for molding performance and ensure production times are met.
- Check and complete all paperwork associated with setup and adjustments of tooling, machines, and auxiliary equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all procedures applicable to the manufacturing process.
- Maintain a safe working environment and good housekeeping.
- Communicate best practices to other team members and shifts.
- Other projects and tasks as assigned.
- 5+ years of experience as an Injection Molding Process Technician in an injection molding facility (machines from 10-720T).
- Experience in medical molding operations; robots are a plus.
- Must provide own tools.
- Ability to minimize equipment downtime.
- Leadership and training experience preferred; fully conversant with all equipment, tools and measuring instruments related to the manufacturing cycle.
- Knowledge of processing characteristics of materials (e.g., PET, PP, PVC).
- Experience in cGMP, ISO 13485, lean manufacturing, 5S, process troubleshooting, and root cause identification.
- Familiarity with clean room operations and Scientific Molding; ability to program, start and troubleshoot molding machines and robots.
- Good mechanical aptitude; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; general knowledge of hand tools.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Willingness to work off shift and overtime.
High School Diploma is required. Technical degree is preferred. Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree if the candidate demonstrates the combination of experience, training and education to fulfill duties successfully.
Physical RequirementsHeavy work - exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The role involves working in an inside environment with potential exposure to noise and temperature changes, and proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and chemicals. Lifts and transfers may be required;
safety precautions must be followed.
