Mechanics Shop Foreman

The Mechanics Shop Foremanisahands -onleaderwhooverseesday-to-daymaintenanceandrepairactivitiesintheshop,supportsfloormechanicswithcurrentjobs,performscomplexdiagnosticsandrepairs,andensuresworkordersarecompletedsafely,ontime,andtoqualitystandards.

Yellow iron(heavyconstructionequipment) experienceispreferred.

Intheabsenceofthe Maintenance Manager ,the Foremanisresponsibleforcoordinatingworkflows,prioritizing jobs,andensuringtimelycompletions.

Key Responsibilities

• • Performanddirectheavydieseldiagnostics,repairs,and rebuilds(engines,transmissions,hydraulics,pneumatics,electrical,cooling systems).
  • Supportfloormechanicsonactivejobs:triage,troubleshooting,test procedures,andrepairstrategy.
  • Assistwithmaintenanceofyellowiron(e.g.,loaders,excavators,dozers,graders),trucks,trailers,andsupportequipment.
  • Verifyrepairquality:road-test/functional-test equipment,andensuredocumentationaccuracy.
  • ExecutePMschedulesandcorrectivework;monitorrepeatfailuresandhelpdriveroot-cause analysis.
  • Maintaintoolcontrol,shop housekeeping,andsafeequipmentstaging;enforce lockout/tagoutandothersafetyprocedures.

• • Assigntechnicianstoworkordersbasedonskills,priority,andpartsavailability.
  • Trainandmentormechanicsondiagnosticworkflows,properrepairpractices,and documentation.
  • Monitorlaborutilizationandproductivity;balanceurgentrepairswithplannedPMtasks.
  • Serveasactingleadwhenthe Maintenance Managerisaway —set priorities,approvejobcompletions,andescalateissues.

• • ReviewandupdateworkordersinthecompanyCMMS;recordlabortime,parts,andnotes.
  • Maintainservicerecords,inspection logs,andcompliancefiles(e.g.,DOT inspections,emissions,andequipmentsafetychecks).
  • Prepare next-dayworkplans;communicatepartsbackordersandvendorETAs.
  • Assistwithpurchasingrequests,quotes,andvendorfollow-up.
  • Supportonboardingofnewmechanics;maintaintrainingrecordsandskillmatrices.

• • Modelsafeworkpractices;ensureadherencetoOSHA,DOT,andcompany policies.
  • Conduct/participateinsafetymeetings,toolbox talks,andincidentreviews;implementcorrectiveactions.
  • EnsurePPEuse,machine guarding,andproperhandling/disposalofoils,coolants,andhazardousmaterials.

Required

• • 5+yearsofheavydieselmechanicexperiencewithstrongdiagnosticsacrossengines,hydraulics,electrical,anddrivelinesystems.
  • Demonstratedexperiencewithconstruction“yellow iron”equipment(preferred).
  • 2+yearsinaleadorforemancapacity(assigning work,coaching techs,closingworkorders).
  • Proficiencywithscantools,service literature,schematics,andCMMS/work-order systems.
  • Abilitytoreadtechnicaldrawings,torque specs,andapplyOEMrepairprocedures.
  • Microsoft Office knowledge,Excel,Word,Outlook,
  • Valid driver’slicense;cleanMVR;abilitytopasspre-employment screening.

Preferred

• • ASEorOEMcertifications(diesel,electrical,hydraulics);
    
    CDL-B;forkliftcertification.
  • Aidwithcoordinatingwarrantyworkwithequipmentdealers/OEMs.

• • Environment:Shop-basedwithperiodicfieldsupport.
    
    Exposuretonoise,fumes,oils,coolants,andmovingequipment.
  • Physical Demands:Frequent standing,bending,kneeling,climbing,andworkinginconfinedspaces;lift/push/pullupto
    75lbs;manualandpower-tooluse.
  • Schedule:Full-time;primarilydayshiftwithoccasionalextendedhours,evenings,orweekendsforbreakdownsorprojectdeadlines.
  • PPE:Safety glasses,hearing protection,gloves,steel-toeboots;respiratoryprotectionastasksrequire.
  • Travel:Minimal,limitedtolocalsitesforfieldrepairsandvendortrips.
