Employment Status: Chapter 7 Ordinance, Non-Exempt, Seasonal

Schedule: Sundays (Dependent on Pool Operating Hours)

Required:

Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License preferred, Certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or Y.M.C.A., American Red Cross Adult/Pediatric First Aid and C.P.R./A.E.D., American Red Cross Adult/Pediatric First Aid, American Heart Association Basic First Aid, American Heart Association C.P.R./A.E.D. and W.S.I. preferred

The City of Chicopee’s Department of Public Works – Recreation Division is hiring a Head Lifeguard whose duty at a pool may include Lifeguarding of pool, written maintenance logs, Ability to run in – service training and working with the public. Oversee daily operations of pool and staff. Supervise and schedule staff. Individuals are responsible for implementation of maintenance procedures. Assistance with learn to swim program.

Must be able to troubleshoot problems.

• Ensures daily teaching schedules, employee hours, and reports any changes to the Aquatic Director.
• Maintains the appearance and safety of the pool and all its surrounding areas.
• Handles all staff and patron grievances and addresses them to the Aquatic Director as needed.
• Enforces all rules and regulations regarding staff and patrons while on duty.
• Keeps up-to-date and organized records of all equipment and supplies.
• Keeps accurate weekly time sheets, daily and weekly logs, and in‑service training records. All paperwork turned in on time to the Aquatic Director.
• Works as lifeguard in rotation as needed.
• Responsible for daily opening and closing of pool, on time when on duty.
• Assures the safety of all patrons.
• Evaluates the performance of all staff members with the Aquatic director and review evaluation with each member.
• Responsible for testing pool while on duty.

• Massachusetts Class D Driver's License. Preferred.
• Certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or Y.M.C.A., American Red Cross Adult/Pediatric First Aid and C.P.R./A.E.D., American Red Cross Adult/Pediatric First Aid, American Heart Association Basic First Aid, American Heart Association C.P.R./A.E.D. and W.S.I. Preferred.
• High School Diploma/G.E.D. – Preferred. ? Or must have completed 11th Grade
• One (1) year related experience in lifeguarding of pools or open water. Preferred.
• General Knowledge of pools, pool maintenance and customer service. Preferred.
