Position: Nurse Manager - 4 Ross Cardiovascular Surgery and Transplant, CVICU

Overview

The Ohio State University Medical Center’s mission is focused on integrating quality patient care, education, and research. The Nurse Manager leads a team of professional health care providers, cultivates collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual respect, and creates and facilitates an environment that supports the nursing professional practice model. The Nurse Manager functions as a key member of the health care team that provides patient care and supportive services in an in-patient setting toward achieving positive patient care outcomes, maximizing patient involvement in their own plan of care, improving service levels, reducing length of hospitalization, and decreasing costs.

The span of control is based on unit capacity, complexity, and FTE oversight, and will consider patient satisfaction, quality and safety as well as staff engagement and resilience.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee plans, organize, manage, and evaluate patient care operations for a designated area on a 24-hour basis as needed.

  • Plan and develop strategic short-, mid-, and long-term goals and processes to enhance and improve unit operations in alignment with the Medical Center’s mission, vision, and values.

  • Evaluate and identify achievements and problems in meeting goals; manage, guide, coach, and evaluate the work performance of patient care staff in a designated area.

  • Promote ongoing collaboration with other patient care departments and areas related to patient care operations and services.

  • Develop, administer, and manage unit budget plans; identify, plan, and initiate cost-saving initiatives.

  • Participate in the development of evidence-based standards of practice; identify opportunities for improvement in patient care and organizational processes.

  • Assume leadership in identifying and correcting factors contributing to problematic outcomes.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in nursing or an equivalent combination of education and experience with a major in nursing.

  • Additional

    Education:

    Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferred).

  • Required Qualifications:

    Current Ohio RN license; minimum of three years RN clinical experience and two years of management experience in a relevant care setting; holds a current certification in nursing administration or area of clinical expertise, or certification must be achieved within the timeline of eligibility; prior leadership and management experience required.
