• Maintain control of the institution to provide safety and security for the facility, inmates, staff, and the general public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility.
• Assure the assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
• Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.
• Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and transport inmates.
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
• Complete required reports and serve on committees.
• Prevent escapes or incidents that threaten security.
• When necessary, use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates.

• Corrections, communications, criminology/criminal justice, law enforcement, and security.
• Ethics and values, listening, observation, situational awareness, and teamwork.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license; positions that involve transportation may require a commercial driver’s license.
• Successfully pass the correction officer assessment within the past 24 months, or be a current ODRC employee who has been certified in the position.
• Probationary period of 365 days.

• Step 1: $24.16 per hour.
• Step 2: $24.86 per hour after 6 months of employment.
• Additional $0.60 per hour for 2nd or 3rd shift work.
