Overview
The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) is a local government delivering over 100 services to residents across eight electoral areas and six member municipalities. The FVRD is the third‑most populous regional district in British Columbia.
Position SummaryAs an Accountant in the Corporate Services team, the successful candidate will perform a wide variety of accounting and finance duties, including journal entry review, treasury and cash flow analysis, year‑end and budgeting support, procurement assistance, policy development, and software database management.
Responsibilities- Review and reconcile journal entries.
- Analyze treasury and cash flow activities.
- Provide support to the Finance team.
- Prepare government‑required reporting.
- Assist with year‑end and budget preparation.
- Support a decentralised procurement process and review contracts.
- Offer recommendations based on legislation or advisory input.
- Conduct ad hoc projects, process improvements, and create efficiencies.
- Update and maintain software databases.
- Draft internal policies, Board reports, and bylaws.
- Completed the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and four years of professional experience, or enrolled in the CPA Professional Education Program with five years of professional experience.
- Knowledge of principles, procedures, policies, and regulations applicable to professional accounting practices, including fund accounting.
- Extensive experience with financial software and computerized accounting systems.
- Sound knowledge of modern office practices, office equipment, and both manual and computerized accounting systems.
- Proficiency in business English and accounting mathematics.
- Knowledge or skill in auditing techniques.
- Ability to prepare financial reports and statements, and to reconcile accounts and sub‑ledgers.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff and explain and interpret department policies and procedures.
- Must be able to pass a criminal record check.
- Union position rate of $54.96 per hour.
