Salary Range: $63,347 to $116,190 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date: September 1, 2026 – June 30, 2028

  • Due to the specialized nature of this position, the successful applicant, if currently a continuing appointee with the Chilliwack School District, may be "seconded" to this position thereby having the assurance to return to their former position.

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience
  • Master's degree, recognized by the College of Teachers, in counselling psychology or a related discipline with a focus on behaviour disorders and counselling.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services, as it relates to behavior and mental health support.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect behavioural information and performing behavioural screening and/or assessments in order to complete Functional Behavioural Assessments.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of CBIEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
  • Experience in intaking students and matching preferences and goals with flexible learning programs
  • Ability to apply for Ministry of Education Categories and manage CBIEPs
  • Be able to collaborate with teachers, staff, outside agencies to co-plan for success around their CBIEPs and learning programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and successful experience in school-based counseling at the secondary level
  • Extensive experience with and knowledge of the BC Graduation Plans and ensuring students are progressing on their graduation plan
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in using MyEd for student information gathering and course planning at the Secondary School level
  • Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
  • Successful experience with academic and career advisement
  • An understanding of bursary and scholarship opportunities and processes to access related information through My Blue Print
  • Willingness and experience in leading a School Based Team at the Secondary level
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate students who are disadvantaged or have dysfunctional behaviour patterns to attend school regularly
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and proven ability to access community services for students and their families
  • Excellent leadership, organizational and coordination skills
  • Proven ability to inspire and support confidence and self-worth in adolescents
  • Demonstrated ability to be a case manager and positively advocate for students
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative manner with staff, administration, and parents
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with secondary curriculum, graduation requirements and post-secondary opportunities
  • Extensive experience working with students in care and students on youth agreements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and proven ability to access community services for students and their families
  • Experience in all School Based Team processes and being a positively contributing member of SBT
