District Avalanche Assistant at BC Public Service

Enhance public safety as a District Avalanche Assistant with the BC Public Service. This on-site role focuses on avalanche analysis, forecasting, and control in high-risk conditions.

As a vital member of the District team, you'll support the Avalanche Safety Program under the guidance of the District Avalanche Supervisor. Your expertise in avalanche activity monitoring and risk assessment is crucial, as you will engage with contractors and emergency responders.

Your role will include weather observations and hazard evaluations while participating in avalanche control operations following safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor and assess avalanche activity and snowpack conditions

• Conduct avalanche control operations employing explosives

• Collaborate with emergency responders and contractors

• Participate in avalanche forecasting and risk management

• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and plans

Requirements:

• Technical diploma in related fields or Grade 12 with experience

• Two winter seasons in an operational avalanche program

• Canadian Avalanche Association registration or eligibility

• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence

• Physical fitness for demanding mountainous terrains
