Bylaw Enforcement Officer (Casual)

Responsibilities- Assist management to achieve an efficient operation in the Department through reliable performance in all areas of bylaws and regulations, receiving and processing complaints, performing field inspections for bylaw infractions, and interpreting regulations and bylaws to the general public.
- Perform clerical duties, maintain records and files, prepare correspondence, and handle simple accounts.
- Assist in the administration of inspectional and enforcement programs; investigate and process complaints concerning infractions or violations of Municipal Bylaws; prepare information for prosecution and give evidence in court and Bylaw Adjudication.
- Assist in all facets of enforcement; receive and process complaints, confer with other departments and agencies, perform field inspections for bylaw infractions and for businesses to ensure they are properly licensed, and interpret regulations and bylaws to the public.
- Conduct daily patrols and inspections on foot and bicycle, including patrols of long distances; on paved and unpaved surfaces (dirt, gravel, etc.); on flat or hilly terrain; and in all weather conditions.
- Work regular scheduled shifts to cover scheduled vacation and statutory holidays, especially during the summer months; and work on‑call as operationally required to cover occasional unexpected absences year‑round.
- Work shifts that may include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, high motivation, goal‑oriented, and efficient with a varied workload; think critically and problem‑solve.
- Interact with all members of the community, including those experiencing homelessness or having addiction, mental health or other health concerns.
- Minimum Grade 12 education supplemented preferably with courses in Criminology and Administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Successfully completed the Bylaw Compliance, Enforcement & Investigative Skills Level 1 course through the Justice Institute of BC (or equivalent).
- Valid B.C. Driver's License;
Use of Force Training is considered an asset.
The hourly rate of pay in this position is $44.87 (2026 rate).
