Job Overview
Planner I (Full Time - LTTT) – internal posting for City of Chilliwack employees only. The incumbent assists management to achieve efficient operation within the Planning Department through reliable performance in technical work, field and office work of planning requirements and observing safety and security practices of confidential planning material and municipal policies.
Responsibilities- Prepare reports on development and long‑range planning matters.
- Respond to general inquiries related to development and planning matters.
- Provide technical support for planning functions.
- Conduct reviews for zoning, development permits, building permits, business licences, and other City regulations and policies.
- Prepare basic correspondence, conduct bylaw compliance, and site visits.
- Perform other related duties as assigned under general supervision.
The incumbent will normally work the standard work week Monday to Friday within the specified hours, and on occasion work overtime as authorized. May be required to travel in the performance of duties.
Education- Graduate from a 2‑year post‑secondary program in Geography or Planning and one year of relevant experience, or
- Equivalent combination of related education and experience.
- Working knowledge of planning, land development, and development industry processes.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing, including preparing transparent and concise technical and non‑technical reports.
- Ability to coordinate work with staff in the Planning Department and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to organize work processes efficiently, multi‑task, prioritize work under pressure, and maintain a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of land or property tracking software.
- Knowledge of various government agencies and legislation as they pertain to planning.
- Competent in mapping and graphics as applied to planning.
- Ability to read and interpret development plans, site plans, and understand their specifications.
- Ability to deal effectively with applicants and the public in a tactful, courteous, and diplomatic manner.
- Must be in possession of or able to obtain a valid B.C. Driver's Licence.
& Salary
Temporary Full Time – $49.50 per hour (2026 rate).
