Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Training – Full Time – Utility Operations Department.
ResponsibilitiesSupport the safe and efficient operation of the wastewater treatment facility, including operating and maintaining treatment equipment, monitoring plant processes, performing routine cleaning and preventative maintenance, collecting samples and conducting basic testing, maintaining records and logs, and assisting with mechanical and electrical repairs as required. This role also supports overall plant and grounds maintenance and performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills- Completed grade 12 education.
- Able to obtain an EOCP Wastewater Treatment Certificate Level I Certificate within 18 months of employment.
- Possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence.
- Sound knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures used in treatment plant operations.
- Ability to understand the principles of function and operation and apply the techniques of tending and maintaining sewage processing and sludge disposal equipment.
- Will acceptable to work in wet or humid conditions, subject to odours, fumes and gases.
- Sound knowledge of routine duties and ability to perform with minimum supervision.
- Knowledgeable in monitoring electrical and mechanical control panels and gauges.
- Good knowledge of electrical and mechanical maintenance repair and preventative maintenance programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors and other members of staff.
- Ability to relate to the public and maintain a neat and presentable appearance.
We offer a competitive salary and benefits package for this unionized position and a great work environment. The hourly rate of pay for this position is $35.64 (2026 rate).
