Responsibilities

Assist management in achieving efficient operation in the Recreation Services Section through reliable performance of custodian/security tasks, following municipal policies and safety practices.

Perform custodial/security services of municipal facilities: minor cleaning, ensure facilities are presentable and usable by the public, secure facilities when not in use, clean washrooms, lobbies, foyers, manage waste disposal and recycling activities.

Maintain outdoor areas such as parking lots, manage safe and clear access to facilities, remove debris and shoveling snow around entrances, steps, and wheelchair ramps as assigned.

Work prescribed shift schedules, including overtime as required.

Perform other related duties as assigned under general supervision. Performance is subject to review, inspection, and evaluation by the Facilities Supervisor.

Qualifications

Able to understand verbal and written instructions in English, fill simple forms, count and perform addition/subtraction.

Able to exhibit courtesy, tact, diplomacy in dealing with the public and be neat and presentable.

Must possess a valid B.C. Driver's License.

Preferred: previous experience with custodial/security practices; must acquire sound knowledge within three (3) months of on‑job training.

Must be able to demonstrate skill in the use of equipment and materials provided.

Able to recognize, rectify, and report actual and potential safety hazards.

Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department officials and staff.

Able to perform manual work and lift heavy objects.

Salary: $24.73 per hour (2026 Rate).
