Title:
Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Training (Full Time)
- Assist management to achieve an efficient operation in the sewage treatment function through reliable monitoring and servicing of sewage equipment, treatment plant, and related equipment, while observing municipal policies and recognized safety practices.
- Perform a variety of duties related to Wastewater Treatment Plant Operation, including but not limited to: operating sludge disposal equipment (anaerobic digesters and belt filter press), tending aeration equipment, clearing coarse materials and obstructions from screens to maintain correct flow of influent and effluent, removing and cleaning screens, scrubbing processing tanks and walkways, and cleaning precipitate, sludge, and wash from sumps and tanks.
- Assist electrical and mechanical operators as required; maintain cleanliness of the plant and grounds; carry out preventive maintenance procedures/programs; take samples and perform tests as required; update records and logs as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision with performance reviewed by the Supervisor III - WWTP.
- The incumbent will work five consecutive days within the hours prescribed in published shift schedules and may work overtime as authorized.
- Must be in good health to work outdoors in all weather and under conditions of gases, fumes, and odours; must wear safety equipment as appropriate.
- Union dues will be deducted at hire in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
- Education:
Must have completed grade 12 education. - Must be able to obtain EOCP Wastewater Treatment Certificate Level I within 18 months of employment.
- Skills:
Must hold a valid B.C. Driver's Licence. - Sound knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in treatment plant operations.
- Able to understand the principles of the functions and operation and to apply techniques of tending and maintaining sewage processing and sludge disposal equipment.
- Able to work in wet or humid conditions while subject to odours, fumes, and gases.
- Sound knowledge of routine duties and the ability to perform with minimum supervision.
- Knowledge of monitoring electrical and mechanical control panels and gauges.
- Valuable knowledge in electrical and mechanical maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance programs.
- Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors and other staff.
- Able to relate to the public and be neat and presentable in appearance.
Salary: $35.64 per hour (2026 rate)
