Job Summary

The Relief Full‑Time Registered Nurse, Surgical Services – Inpatient will join the Surgical 4 South team at Chilliwack General Hospital, located in Chilliwack, B.C. This temporary position is available until the return of the incumbent.

Responsibilities

Assess patients and collect information from a variety of sources using observation, communication, data review and physical assessment. Make a nursing diagnosis and determine appropriate nursing interventions.

Collaborate with patients, families and caregivers in developing, implementing and modifying care plans, encouraging family participation.

Participate in care and discharge planning, ensuring the care plan is implemented effectively and coordinating with the Patient Care Coordinator.

Coordinate nursing care, set priorities, delegate tasks and make referrals according to established protocols.

Receive and prepare patients for testing, explaining procedures and monitoring comfort.

Perform non‑invasive diagnostic tests on the vascular system and Transcutaneous Oxygen Measurement (TCOM); assess results and report to physicians.

Collaborate with the interprofessional care team to resolve issues and adjust care plans as needed.

Teach patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration, and maintenance.

Plan and discuss referral information with patients and families, initiating referrals to community agencies.

Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, interventions and outcomes in accordance with practice standards.

Attend nursing committees, care conferences and councils as assigned.

Engage in research and quality improvement activities to identify and recommend practice changes.

Participate in in‑services and other educational programs, maintaining current clinical competence.

Act as a preceptor or mentor to new nursing staff and students.

Provide feedback to management regarding effectiveness of patient care programs and equipment.

Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
RNs performing ABI procedures must complete the Fraser Health Regional ABI course to be deemed qualified under duties 5 and 6.

Completed initial and ongoing patient assessment, including clinical and diagnostic reasoning.

Teach and instruct patients and families on essential health topics.
Organize and prioritize work tasks.
Collaborate and promote cooperation within the interprofessional team.
Use evidence‑based information to support nursing decisions.
Operate related equipment and computer applications.
Maintain physical ability to perform job duties.
