Position: Family Service Social Worker - F/T 1879

Family Service Social Worker - Full Time (Chilliwack)

We are a fully delegated Indigenous Child & Family Service Agency providing programs and services to Indigenous children, youth, and families on and off reserve within Stó:lō Territory in the Fraser Valley.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to a Delegated Team Leader, the Social Worker provides culturally appropriate, responsive, community‑based services. The Social Worker is the first point of contact for any child protection report and works in partnership with Families, Community Members, Band Designates, identified Elders, and other supports in case planning and service delivery decisions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree or a Social Sciences degree
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the Human Services field is an asset
  • Delegated or willing to attend delegation in BC
  • Knowledge of B.C. Child, Family and Community Services Act, AOPSI, and relevant legislation
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous culture and its impact on individuals and communities
  • Computer literacy on databases, Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Valid BC Driver’s Class 5 License (no restrictions)
  • Criminal Records Check is a requirement
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Structured Decision Making (SDM) tools

  • Complete SDM tools within required time frames
  • Review family’s current situation and history
  • Identify situations requiring change and communicate to designated representative and family
  • Arrange family case planning conferences to establish the family plan
  • Develop comprehensive, holistic, culturally appropriate family plans through case conferences with the family, community members, and professionals
  • Monitor, evaluate, and revise family plans to reduce risks to children and communities
  • Make referrals as needed to implement the family plan
  • Regularly meet with other service providers and the family regarding family progress
  • Provide and receive ongoing feedback to and from the family, caregivers, and other professionals regarding quality and expectations of service
  • Address risks to the child, including arrangements for out of home placements when appropriate
  • Ensure service expectations are appropriate to the child’s age and level of development

Evaluation

  • Monitor and evaluate every aspect of the family plan and ensure progress toward established goals
  • Participate in actively tracking sessions with Team Lead and other members of the team
  • Receive feedback from the agency’s quality assurance process, including file documentation, cultural practice and service delivery
  • Complete all steps in family development response or an investigation as outlined in Child Protection Response Policy (Chapter
    3)

Administration

  • Complete all recordings and documents as per the Good Recording Guide
  • Maintain a positive participatory approach to community liaison role
  • Represent the Agency in court in matters pertaining to the B.C. Child, Family and Community Service Act
  • Prepare reports for court as required and ensure they are properly completed and filed
  • Demonstrate security awareness consistent with agency policy when dealing with confidential documents, office safety and personal safety
  • Demonstrate proficiency in case management and organizational skills to ensure complete and accurate records are kept on all files
  • Complete monthly summaries in a timely manner to meet both statistical and case management responsibilities
  • Ensure that the SDM tools on the file are completed within the specified time frame

Teamwork

  • Develop and maintain a positive and participatory approach to teamwork
  • Promptly address issues that have an impact on cooperation, support, moral and service delivery
  • Establish respectful and effective working relationships with staff, work units and other agencies
  • Seek knowledge and information when there may be uncertainty of policy, practice, or procedures

Intake

  • Upon receiving the file, the FSW collects, records and analyses information from the public
  • Seek professional guidance and supervision from their Team Lead in determining if protection investigation or service assessment is required
