Position: Youth Mentor for Stó:lō Communities
Location: Agassiz

Play a pivotal role as a Youth Mentor in Stó:lō communities, promoting Indigenous culture and supporting vulnerable youth. Work outreach-focused to ensure culturally sensitive mentorship and assistance.

Joining the Xyólheméylh family, you will leverage your understanding of Indigenous history and cultural practices to mentor youth facing challenges like substance abuse and isolation. This role involves providing crisis intervention and educational support, ensuring youth are connected to their heritage. Collaboration with community representatives is vital for upholding cultural integrity and promoting effective service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Mentor vulnerable youth using traditional teachings and communications

• Facilitate access to educational resources and life skills training

• Implement crisis interventions to support youth in distress

• Promote family reunification and community connectedness

• Uphold agency standards according to Indigenous practices

Requirements:

• Experience working with at-risk youth

• Familiarity with the B.C. Child, Family and Community Services Act

• Recognized cultural competency within Indigenous communities

• Strong oral communication skills with Indigenous emphasis

• Flexible working hours including evenings as necessary
