Position Overview

Sequoia Support Services is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and motivated Residential Child & Youth Worker to join our team on a full-time basis.

This position provides direct support to children and youth living in a staffed residential setting. The successful candidate will play a key role in creating a safe, structured, and nurturing environment while supporting youth in developing independence, emotional regulation, life skills, and meaningful community connections.

The ideal candidate is patient, adaptable, trauma-informed, and passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of children and youth.

Schedule

Full-Time Position

  • Tuesday through Saturday
  • 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
  • 40 hours per week
  • Weekend availability required
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care and supervision to youth in a residential setting.
  • Support youth with daily living skills, personal care, meal preparation, medication administration (where applicable), and household routines.
  • Build positive, professional, and trusting relationships with youth while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Implement individualized care plans, behavioural support plans, and intervention strategies.
  • Support emotional regulation, conflict resolution, communication skills, and personal growth.
  • Assist youth in accessing educational, recreational, vocational, cultural, and community-based opportunities.
  • Transport youth to appointments, activities, school functions, and community outings as required.
  • Respond effectively to behavioural incidents, crises, and emergency situations while maintaining safety and following agency protocols.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation including daily logs, progress notes, medication records, incident reports, and communication notes using Share Vision.
  • Collaborate with coordinators, social workers, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community partners to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Perform household duties including cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, meal preparation, yard maintenance, and maintaining a clean and organized home environment.
  • Participate in team meetings, staff training, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the rights, dignity, and privacy of all individuals supported.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or Degree in Child & Youth Care, Social Services, Human Services, Psychology, Criminology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with children and youth with behavioural challenges, mental health concerns, trauma histories, developmental disabilities, or complex support needs is an asset.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Comfortable using Share Vision, Gmail, Google Drive, and other electronic documentation systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs and perform physical aspects of care and support.
Required Certifications & Documentation
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Food Safe Certification
  • Negative TB Test
  • MCFD Criminal Record Check (HUB Clearance)
  • Health Clearance Certificate
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Clear Driver's Abstract/Record
  • Reliable vehicle with business-use insurance and minimum $3 million liability coverage (where applicable)
  • Mandt Certification (training available upon hire)
