Employees will be involved in all aspects of growing trees and shrubs in containers, including trimming, pruning, weeding, watering, maintaining irrigation systems, staking, and applying fertilizers. Blending soil amendments occasionally is another duty. Maintaining the landscaping and windbreak shelter belts involves pulling weeds, trimming trees, pruning shrubs, checking irrigation drip emitters, and setting traps for gophers.
Daily maintenance tasks will include trimming, pruning, fertilizing, and watering plants and trees. Daily production tasks will include potting plants and trees from 1‑gallon perennials to 100‑gallon trees.
Forklift Operator
:
Loads and unloads trucks/trailers transporting plants to ranches or fields; moves full carts from the germination room into tunnels; unloads trucks arriving with peat moss and vermiculite; places pallets with trays, peat moss, vermiculite, and other items needed for this task. Must wear company‑provided protective gear at all times, including dust mask, gloves, and safety glasses.
Tractor Operator
:
Drives and controls farm equipment to till, plant, cultivate, mow, and harvest crops. Operates irrigation tape injectors, plastic mulch‑laying equipment, and harvest trailers, loading and unloading seed, plants, materials, and chemicals by hand or forklift.
Legal Requirements – Valid driver’s license and, where required, a doctor’s certificate as per 29 CFR 500.105. Workers lacking a valid driver’s license or doctor’s certificate are still eligible for employment and are not disqualified from other job responsibilities.
Work conditions include long periods outdoors, exposure to dew, rain, light snow, wind, direct sun, high humidity, and extreme temperatures. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insect spray, and related chemicals may affect performance. Workers must wear assigned personal protective equipment when required, and must report for work daily wearing appropriate work clothing and durable boots. Casual clothing is not permitted.
Workers receive an unpaid lunch break when working more than 5 hours. Work schedules may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employees must be available as stated on the standard work schedule throughout the entire contract period.
