Salary and Benefits

$2,488.74 Monthly Benefit Bank for Health Insurance

$8,091 - $9,833 per month

$97,092 - $117,996 annually

Monthly city contributions to the 457 Deferred Compensation Retirement Plan and the Retirement Health Savings Plan

155 Holiday Hours per Fiscal Year (can be converted to pay).

Eligibility and Testing

Qualified applicants will be invited to attend a Physical Agility Test if needed. Passing candidates may be invited to an interview. Additional details will be provided prior to testing.

This position requires current enrollment/attendance in a POST certified Police Officer Training Academy, or you must have graduated from a POST certified Police Officer Training Academy. Provide your POST certification copy or proof of enrollment in your online application. Failure to provide the required documentation may result in disqualification from the selection process. Depending on your current status, you may be required to attend a Physical Agility Test.

Background Investigation

Must pass an extensive Police Background Investigation and Administrative Review.

Due to California State Law regarding firearms, you must be 21 years of age at the time of hire.

Definition

Under direct supervision and tutorship of a tactical officer, develops an awareness of the functions, activities, and responsibilities of a Police Officer. Must possess a valid POST Police Training Academy Certificate.

Essential Functions

• Meet standards of physical stature, endurance, and agility established by the City.
• Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents, and places.
• Think and act quickly in emergencies, and judge situations and people accurately
• Prepare accurate and grammatically correct written reports.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
• Perform all duties within the context of the City’s Mission Statement and Organizational Values.

Education

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Current enrollment and attendance in a POST certified Police Officer training academy OR have graduated within the past year from a POST certified Police Training Academy (required).
• Supplemental Police Science courses (desirable).

Licenses/Certifications

• Current enrollment and attendance in a POST certified Police Training Academy OR must have previously graduated from a POST certified Police Training Academy and possess a valid POST Police Training Academy Certificate (required).

Experience

• None required.

Knowledge of

• Criminal justice system, Police practices, and procedures.

Ability to

• Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Use and care for firearms.
• Learn, understand, and interpret laws and regulations.
• Learn standard broadcasting procedures of a Police radio system.

Training/Safety Requirements

Job specific training will be provided according to class specification during work hours.

• Possess a valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
• Receive satisfactory results from a background investigation, polygraph test, psychological evaluation, a physical examination, which includes a drug screen, and an administrative review.
