Simulator Control Systems Engineer
Join Alpine Racing Limited as a Simulator Control Systems Engineer in the Controls and Systems Group this role you will set up, monitor and optimise chassis control systems for the driver‑in‑the‑loop simulator, support race events and develop new simulator systems and tools to enhance performance.
Responsibilities- Ensure reliable and performant operation of on‑car chassis control systems in the DIL simulator.
- Prepare SECU software release packages for simulator events.
- Provide guidance to race engineers and drivers on control system behaviour and procedural requirements.
- Maintain familiarity with on‑car ECU software and hardware, team software and DIL systems.
- Assist the Simulator Group in developing systems, procedures, software and tools, including dSPACE hardware in the loop.
- Bridge the gap between DIL and car control systems, documenting differences in configuration and usage.
- Liaise with colleagues across engineering functions to provide analytical and objective feedback on developments and faults.
- Contribute to the Control Systems Group on other rigs, dyno tests and car‑related tasks as required.
- Minimum three years of professional experience in a high‑performance trackside environment.
- Degree level in Engineering, Physics or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of real‑time control systems, mechatronics, hydraulic systems and data analysis.
- Proven experience programming in MATLAB and Simulink.
- Comprehensive knowledge of on‑car hydraulic and electrical systems, Formula One transmission technology, failure modes and fault diagnosis.
- Practical understanding of sampled‑data systems, signal processing and data analysis methodologies.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a demanding, fast‑paced race‑track environment.
- Knowledge of vehicle dynamics fundamentals.
- Experience with McLaren Applied off‑car tools.
- Programming in Python and/or C#.
