Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Consultant in Elderly Medicine to join our dedicated team at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital. You will play a key role in shaping services for frailty, complex care, and chronic conditions, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to improve outcomes and enhance quality of life.
The successful candidate will be GMC registered with specialist accreditation in Geriatric Medicine and demonstrate strong clinical leadership, innovation, and a passion for elderly care. In return, we offer a supportive environment with opportunities for teaching, research, and service development, alongside flexible working options and excellent work‑life balance. You will provide clinical and managerial leadership to an acute elderly care ward at the Chorley Hospital site, paired with an existing consultant colleague.
You will also develop a subspecialty area of interest (eg. frailty, liaison/in‑reach or community).
- Provide direct input to an elderly medicine ward, assuming a continuous commitment for the care of ward inpatients, even if employed less than full‑time, ensuring adequate arrangements for leave and off‑duty periods. Ward in‑patient numbers are typically 14 care‑of‑the‑elderly patients and up to 5 outlying general medicine patients.
- Carry out a general geriatrics, falls, specialty or ‘hot’ clinic. Opportunity to develop an area of sub‑speciality (eg. continence, frailty ‘hot’ clinics, dementia clinics). Typical clinic numbers are 5 new and 2 follow‑up patients.
- Develop a subspecialty service (e.g. frailty, liaison/ in‑reach or community) to be determined in discussion with the department.
- Participate in the General (Internal) Medicine 1:10 consultant on‑call rota, including conducting the ‘Post‑Take’ ward round.
- Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by maintaining continuing professional development.
