Senior Residential Child Care Workers and Residential Childcare Workers – Monroe House (Lancashire County Council)

Specialist Children’s Home for young people with complex Emotional and Mental Health needs | Chorley | Full‑time | Permanent

Monroe House is a specialist, trauma‑informed children’s home supporting young people aged 11–18 years with complex emotional, behavioural and mental‑health needs. The team is made up of dedicated residential care staff and mental health practitioners.

We are specifically seeking people who bring mental health awareness and therapeutic capability into their practice to join our skilled multi-disciplinary team

You will have

  • A strong understanding of trauma, attachment, and child/adolescent mental health
  • Awareness of how early experiences impact behaviour, emotional regulation and relationships
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and risk management in complex settings
  • Experience working with children or young people with emotional or mental health needs, whether in residential care, CAMHS, education, youth work, or health settings
  • Experience of managing distress, crisis presentation, or dysregulated behaviour calmly and safely
  • Ability to build trusting, therapeutic relationships with young people who may struggle to trust adults
  • Calm, resilient and confident in high-pressure situations
  • Committed to learning, reflection and continuous development

As a member of the Monroe House team, you will

  • Provide day-to-day care through a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach
  • Develop consistent, trusting relationships that promote safety and stability
  • Contribute to individualised care planning based on psychological formulations
  • Work closely with clinical colleagues and external professionals
  • Create a home environment where young people feel safe, valued and that they belong

We invest heavily in developing confident, skilled practitioners and provide:

  • A comprehensive induction and specialist training (including Team Teach)
  • Specialist training such as AMBIT and over 50 internal residential specific training courses
  • Funded qualifications (Level 3–5 Children & Young People)
  • Regular reflective supervision, clinical supervision, learning spaces and professional development
  • Ongoing learning in trauma, mental health and therapeutic care
