Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor the quality of the works to ensure compliance with the contract.
  • Carry out inspections of workmanship, materials, and completed work.
  • Witness and verify tests in accordance with the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP).
  • Notify the Contractor of any defects identified during inspections or testing.
  • Keep accurate records of inspections, tests, and defects.
  • Issue Defect notifications under the NEC contract where required.
  • Confirm when notified defects have been corrected satisfactorily.
  • Ensure materials and products comply with the specification and approved submissions.
  • Review quality documentation, including inspection records and test certificates.
  • Attend site meetings and provide updates on quality and defect management.
  • Liaise with the Project Manager, Client, Contractor, and other stakeholders regarding quality matters.
  • Monitor compliance with the Scope and relevant standards, specifications, and legislation.
  • Ensure testing is undertaken at the correct stages of the works.
  • Identify trends in recurring defects and recommend corrective actions.

    Maintain impartiality when carrying out contractual duties.
Typical Day-to-Day Activities
  • Conducting routine site inspections.
  • Witnessing concrete pours, pressure tests, commissioning, or other hold‑point inspections.
  • Reviewing inspection and test records.
  • Raising and tracking defects.
  • Producing inspection reports.
Skills Required
  • Strong understanding of the NEC3/NEC4 ECC contract.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction methods and quality standards.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Good communication and report‑writing skills.
  • Confidence to challenge non‑compliant work.
  • Organisation and record‑keeping skills.
