How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:
- Provides effective communications support to the Carilion Police Department and ancillary areas within the organization.
- Serves as a screening center for all calls for services and dispatches calls appropriately to the perspective departments and jurisdictions.
- Monitors numerous alarms including fire, panic, burglary and dispatches Carilion, City, or County agencies.
- Receives emergency and non-emergency calls for services, determines the nature, location, priority of the call and dispatches units accordingly.
- Maintains the status of units on assignments through a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) application and enters data for all calls into this application.
- Operates a variety of communications equipment and PC related applications to include paging, s and intercom systems.
- Operates a computer terminal for VCIN. Enters and retrieves confidential criminal records data and messages from other Law Enforcement.
- Listens carefully and questions callers to ensure accuracy and completeness of information. Records that information and provides that to the responding units.
- Monitors multiple computer devices that receive data transmissions to include building alarms, fire, panic, burglary and card access alarms, and an extensive CCTV network. Monitors 100 buildings from Harrisonburg, VA. to Charlotte N.C.
- Follows established policies and procedures. Refers all non-routine or complex situations/questions to supervisors.
- Logs all lost and found, and personal property into a secure property room for the patients of the hospital.
What We Require
Education: High School graduate or equivalent required. A minimum of 10 years of dispatch experience may be substituted for high school degree or equivalent.
Experience: Prior experience as a police or emergency services dispatcher preferred. Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN)/NCIC certification required or ability to obtain within one year of hire.

Minimum Qualifications:
Good interpersonal and customer services skills required. Must have good typing and data entry skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel applications.
