How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare

Diagnose and treat human disease, illness and injuries and practice evidence‑based medicine. Prescribe medically necessary medications and treatments. May serve on various Carilion and/or hospital committees. Completes necessary documentation for patients Health Information record.

• Delivers high quality, compassionate medical care applying evidence‑based medicine to the highest degree possible. Examine patients using various medical equipment, instruments and tests. Order or perform various tests, analyses and imaging to provide information on patients condition. Diagnose patients condition based on results of examinations, tests and reports. Prescribe and administer drugs, treatments and vaccinations. May perform perinatal care to pregnant women and deliver babies;
  
  may perform surgeries and related invasive procedures.
• Works closely with case management, nursing, and the medical staff to assure all patients have an appropriate plan of care and ongoing care coordination.
• Actively supports and helps assure Joint Commission continuous readiness and compliance.
• Actively supports performance improvement through work with hospital management, the medical staff and employees in such areas as standardization of equipment and supplies, optimal utilization of ancillary services, cost‑effective medical resource management, and the application of evidence‑based medicine.
• Completes all required documentation timely and accurately. Reports, births, deaths, and contagious diseases as required.
• Actively conducts, cooperates, supports and collaborates on basic and clinical research. May conduct research to aid in the control and cure of diseases. May develop and test new medical techniques.
• Supervises medical treatment of patients. May supervise physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, medical residents, medical students and/or office staff. Actively participates in teaching and mentoring.
