Harris Technologies is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Specialist in its Chula Vista, CA location. The manufacturing engineer will support the manufacture, production and test of military electromechanical equipment and cable assemblies. The Manufacturing Engineering Specialist works to improve manufacturing documentation, processes, workflows, test equipment and test procedures to optimize product manufacture and test efficiency and improve product/test yield. The multidisciplined engineer troubleshoots hardware manufacturing and test issues and supports hardware defect analysis and corrective action investigations.
Functions
- Ensure manufactured products meet technical, quality, cost, schedule and safety requirements.
- Ensure products meet technical, test and naval qualification requirements.
- Work to improve manufacturing documentation, processes, yield, test efficiency, workflows, test equipment and test procedures to optimize product manufacture and test efficiency as well as improve product/test yield.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware manufacturing, quality and test issues to support production schedules.
- Translate engineering design requirements into manufacturing operations sheets, work instructions, tooling and test equipment, workflows and processes.
- Support daily manufacturing areas with hands‑on hardware troubleshooting and incorporation/creation of changes (Engineering Change Requests, Engineering Change Orders).
- Disposition of non‑conforming material with root cause, corrective action and defect analysis as required to prevent recurrence.
- Provide real‑time technical support to manufacturers and fabricators, in‑house as well as the supply base.
- Review design drawings for manufacturability and cost (DFM, DFC).
- Work to achieve operational targets and KPIs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology or Engineering and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Minimum of 5 years prior relevant manufacturing engineering experience with military products.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Strong multidisciplined engineering aptitude, analytical skills and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience with MIL-STD-2003-5B and/or NAVSEA Connector Course.
- Experience with MIL-HDBK-454.
- Experience with MIL-STD-202.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement activities.
- Experience with technical drawing interpretation including hardware drawings, printed circuit boards, cable drawings, schematic diagrams and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
- Familiarity with IPC-J-Std-001, IPC-A-610 and/or IPC/WHMA-A-620.
- Strong organization skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Experience in Costpoint and/or Agile database system.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $82,500–$153,000. L3
